Texas A&M has speed to burn, which might explain why LaMichael James is running Saturday for Oregon

Oregon's LaMichael James is expected to make his outdoor track debut in Saturday's Pepsi Team Invitational, which begins at 10:30 a.m. at Hayward Field.

James is Oregon's marquee running back, and spring football drills are in full swing.

In past years, that would have meant James was off-limits for the track team until after the spring scrimmage. But UO track coach Vin Lananna and football coach Chip Kelly seem to have a nice, working relationship.

Which is one reason why James and UO decathlete Ashton Eaton have been penciled into  the Ducks' 4x100 relay. And in the nick of time, with Texas A&M, Illinois, Missouri and Washington scheduled to compete in the Pepsi.

Texas A&M's 4x100 is lightning fast. Now Oregon might give the Aggies a race.

"Texas A&M is really good," Lananna said. "I'm not pipe-dreaming here."

Yeah, well, the Aggies dropped the baton last week in the Texas Relays. So, who knows?
