HUNT VALLEY, MD – Beynon Sports Surfaces and Cape and Island Tennis and Track recently completed installation of a new BSS 300 embedded track surface at Harvard University to replace a failing surface installed by an inexperienced competitor.
After only three-years and one re-spray of their old track surface Harvard University had no choice but to replace their track with an IAAF Certified track and field surface that could dramatically increase the force reduction of the McCurdy outdoor track to meet the IAAF standards that are set between 35-50%.
“Together Beynon Sports Surfaces and Cape and Island worked closely with Harvard University to increase the Force Reduction for Harvard’s Outdoor track from 25%, which is well below IAAF standards, to 45% with our IAAF Certified BSS 300 track and field surface” commented Drew Beynon, Vice-President of Beynon Sports.
The lower the force reduction the harder the track and field surface will be which means greater impact and less shock absorption when the foot connects with the track surface during the running motion. The greater the force of impact directly relates to how hard athletes can train and their likelihood of succumbing to an injury, at 25% the Harvard University track was almost like running on concrete which is not an ideal surface for training. If the force reduction is too high then the track becomes too soft and absorbs much of the kinetic energy generated when the foot strikes the track making it much more difficult for athletes to achieve their personal bests. The BSS 300 embedded track and field surface offers a great balance that enables the athletes to train hard while continuing to strive to achieve personal bests.
“We are pleased with the work that was done and the new (BSS 300) track is great. Our student-athletes rave about the (Beynon) surface, and it is exactly what we were hoping it would be” Jason Saretsky Director of Track and Field Harvard
As it became more apparent Harvard University had to replace their existing track and field surface they visited many different schools to inspect their track and field surfaces and see if they were happy with the results, because of Beynon’s reputation for quality products, great customer service, and quality distributors Harvard chose to have the BSS 300 embedded surface installed.
“Cape and Island truly went above and beyond with the install of Beynon’s BSS 300 with no worry to their own cost in either man hours or financial expense and they were also incredibly responsive to our requests and needs throughout. The pride they take in their job beams through the finished product and we have received many compliments on the new surface since the completion of the project” states Matt Chisam, Assistant Coach Harvard
