In July 2009, Tarkett Sports & Penn State joined forces to mark a historic industry-first relating to sports surface safety and development..
The Center for Sports Surface Research at Penn State is an inter-college program managed within the College of Agricultural Sciences’ Department of Crop and Soil Sciences. The center is dedicated to the improvement of all sports surfaces. Through cooperative scientific inquiry the center’s members expect to improve performance and safety on running track, artificial turf, and indoor flooring surfaces.
Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences and Tarkett Sports have partnered to develop the world's first facility dedicated to sports surface research, with a five-year commitment that will center around research on synthetic turf, running tracks and indoor sports surfaces. This research collaboration is expected to further accelerate safety within the sports surfacing industry.
The website for the center is located at http://ssrc.psu.edu/
In addition to becoming the industry's main authority on sports surface research and safety, the center has elaborate resources in construction and maintenance, facts and research, equipment and cost analysis, dimensions and layouts.
