Yale’s Indoor Mondo Track Gets Resurfaced by Beynon Sports

After being faced with surface deterioration issues, Yale University reached out to Beynon Sports to resurface their historic indoor track facility. Initially built in 1928, Coxe Cage is regarded as one of the most prestigious Fieldhouses in the United States. At the time of construction, it was considered the largest structures of its kind! It showcases a four (4) lane, 200 meter banked track, long jump and pole vault runways and complete infield which were all resurfaced with a stunning red and blue color combination.

Beynon Sports’ BSS 2000 Resurfacing system was chosen to restore the existing banked Mondo surface that was installed in 2005. Beynon Sports’ revolutionary system not only improves the surface aesthetics, but brings aged rubber sheet good products and aged two-component polyurethane systems to within IAAF performance parameters. Due to the heat and sunlight from the exposed glass ceiling, a proven UV stabilizer was a vital factor in Yale’s decision making.

“At first I was a bit skeptical about installing a poured surface onto a banked track. But John Beynon (President at Beynon Sports) and Tom Mitchell (Regional Sales Manager at Beynon Sports) assured me that it could be done,” Said David Shoehalter, Director of Track and Field and Cross Country at Yale. “The result has been tremendous. Not only does our facility look great, our team reports that training and competing on the new surface is a vast improvement over what we had previously.”

Used primarily as the Bulldogs training grounds, Coxe Cage is also home to the Yale Invitational Track Meet as well as a multitude of community events and Trade Shows.

“It is a true honor to be chosen by Yale University to restore their historic facility. Our entire team feels privileged to now be a part of the history at Coxe Cage.” Said Drew Beynon, Chief Operating Officer at Beynon Sports.
